The first event of the 12th Sri Lanka University Games, Rugby Football Mens’ Championship was kicked off at the Air Force Ground, Rathmalana. Four preliminary round matches were completed during the weekend.
UVA vs SEA
UVA dominated the field during the first half of the match by scoring 10 points with 02 tries as if to make the existence of the SEA invisible.
SEA walked back into the field with some different plans for a hit back and all those blood thirsty sharks might have crossed the minds of the spectators. UVA scored 05 points with one mind blowing try and SEA also matched that with one fine try which gave them 05 points.
However, at the end UVA stole the limelight by winning the match by 15-05.
COL vs WAY
The relentless spirit of COL was enough to secure a solid victory over WAY. At the first half, COL scored 28 points with 04 brilliant tries and 04 conversions without letting WAY to cross the minds of the spectators.
At the second half, although WAY tried to make their way back, COL seemed to keep their plans steady and won the one sided battle by wrapping up 24 points with 04 successful tries with 02 conversions.
Bravo COL!! 52-00
RAJ vs JAF
RAJ and JAF produced a thrilling finish to the third match, mixed with jaw dropping experiences. Although JAF tried to seize the initiative, the RAJ lads showed that they would equal to the task by scoring 5 points with one excellent try during the 1st half and the JAF hounds managed to score 03 points with one penalty.
In the second half, once again the RAJ warriors were careful enough to lead the way 17 points with three tries and JAF failed to hit back.
After a hard battle, RAJ stormed to the glory in the 3rd match by scoring 22-03.
SAB vs EST
It was a cake walk for SAB as they took control of the whole match by scoring 28-0 including 04 fine tries with 02 conversions without leaving any space for EST to a tit-for-tat.
It was the same story in the second half where SAB ended up by scoring 24 points with 04 excellent tries with 02 conversions.
After a lackluster battle SAB was able to drive home by scoring 52-00.
